Gretchen is a member of Corr Downs and head of the firm’s appellate practice. Gretchen is a skilled litigator and trial lawyer whose practice focuses on advocating for individuals in serious personal injury matters—including medical malpractice, abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults, and wrongful death—and representing businesses in matters involving breach of contract, violations of the Consumer Protection Act, employment, real estate and intellectual property disputes. Gretchen also represents individuals in First Amendment, defamation, and civil rights cases. Because Gretchen has experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants, she is uniquely qualified to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each parties’ position and anticipate the strategy of the opposing side. Her extensive courtroom experience includes trying several cases to jury verdict and successfully arguing before the Washington Court of Appeals. Gretchen’s skills in and out of the courtroom have led to significant recognition including being repeatedly named as a Washington Rising Star.
As part of her commitment to justice, Gretchen is intimately involved with local efforts to abolish the death penalty, serving for three years on the board of the Washington Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. She has also dedicated many hours as part of a team of attorneys representing individuals on death row in Texas and Louisiana through the appeals process in both state and federal courts.
Gretchen grew up in Hillsboro, Oregon and moved to Washington to attend Pacific Lutheran University, where she graduated magna cum laude in 2006 with a degree in Social Work. Gretchen then attended Seattle University School of Law where she received her JD, summa cum laude, in 2010. While attending law school, Gretchen was a Lead Article Editor for the SU Law Review and served as a judicial extern for Judge Leighton in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington in Tacoma. She has served as an adjunct professor teaching legal skills courses at Seattle University School of Law.
Gretchen is a life-long sports fan, a committed Mariners supporter, and a Seahawks season ticket holder. During college, she played fast-pitch softball and earned several honors, including being named an All-American infielder, PLU Woman of the Year in Sports, Academic All-American, and Northwest Conference Player of the Year in her sophomore and junior seasons. Gretchen and her husband live in Snoqualmie with their three children and spend most weekends enjoying the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest while backpacking, biking or golfing.
